La Lampada da Terra Akari è parte delle sculture luminose Akari, progettate nel 1951 dall'artista americano di origine giapponese. Ha scelto il nome 'Akari' per questi oggetti, una parola che significa 'luce' in giapponese, evocando sia l'illuminazione che la leggerezza fisica.
L'ispirazione per il design delle luci Akari nasce dalla visita al villaggio di pescatori giapponese di Gifu, dove ha osservato i pescatori al lavoro. Non solo utilizzano cormorani addestrati per la pesca ma anche lanterne per attirare i pesci. Queste lanterne avevano costole in bambù, ricoperte di carta sottile.
Ha ripreso il design di queste lanterne tradizionali per creare sculture luminose in legno e carta. Per la Lampada da Terra Akari, il designer utilizza carta del gelso, perché diffonde la luce in modo delicato e uniforme.

The lamp provides a warm, moody glow to my bedroom, just what I needed! I may buy a second one someday soon. I wouldnt recommend if you have cats or young children because the shade is made of a flimsy paper material. Otherwise, I mm really happy with it!

Very nice floor lamp that provides light in a otherwise dark corner of a room. the shade is white, it looks beige in the image. Lightbulbs are not included so that you can order a warm or cool light bulbs depending on your desire.
