What kind of bulb should I use?
No bulbs included. The Hamdi takes one E26 or E27 base bulb, MAX 40W — standard US screw-base. For the most authentic vintage industrial look, we strongly recommend a clear Edison-style filament LED bulb (T45 or G80 shape, around 4–6W LED). The exposed filament inside the leather shade casts a warm cinematic glow and completes the Restoration Hardware aesthetic. Modern frosted globe bulbs work but give a softer, less industrial feel.
Will my leather look exactly like the photo?
Very close, but each shade is unique. Natural leather has subtle variations in color depth, grain pattern, and surface texture — every hide is one-of-a-kind. The hand-stitching may also vary slightly between pieces. Importantly, leather develops patina over years — exposure to ambient light and gentle handling deepens its character. This is part of what makes leather sconces feel handmade and improve with age (unlike fabric or metal which simply degrade).
Can I install Hamdi as a flanking pair?
Yes — flanking pairs are the most striking way to install Hamdi. Common configurations: two sconces flanking a king or queen bed (one above each nightstand), beside a fireplace mantel, or above a console / hallway. Spacing tips: bedroom sconces look best 30–36″ apart with bottom of shade at roughly 60″ from the floor; fireplace sconces 36–48″ apart depending on mantel width. Each sconce is independently hardwired, so your electrician can install in pairs from a single circuit.
How is it installed? Where can I use it?
Each Hamdi is hardwired to a wall-mounted ceiling box — we recommend a licensed electrician. Suitable rooms: bedrooms (bedside reading), hallways, entryways, powder rooms, dining-room walls, and home offices — anywhere indoor and dry. Not suitable: bathrooms with shower exposure (IP20 not damp-rated), outdoor patios, or any location where moisture could reach the leather (which can stain or warp natural leather over time).
