Light that is kind to a face. Damp-rated sconces and mirror lights with diffused shades — alabaster, opal glass and fabric — placed to fill in shadow rather than cast it.
The placement that works: a pair of sconces flanking the mirror at roughly 66 inches off the floor and 36 to 40 inches apart, so light hits the face from both sides. A single fixture above the mirror alone will always throw a shadow under the brow. For a wall-mounted bar, size it to about three-quarters of the mirror width.
